Medication guideline

First choice:
- Artesunate + Amodiaquine — Tablet — 100 + 270 mg PO qd 3 days — (6 -13 years , 18kg - 35kg)
- Paracetamol — Tablet / 500mg — 500 mg PO tds PRN — (15.1kg-35kg, 5-14 years)
- Ferrous sulphate — TAblet — 200 mg PO qd 2 months — (Mild to moderate anaemia)
- Artesunate — Injection — 2.4 mg/kg body weight IV or IM On admission (time = 0), then at 12 hours, 24 hours, then qd Until patient can swallow — (Severe malaria)

Second choice:
- Artemether + Lumefantrine — Tablet / 20mg+ 120mg — 40+140 mg PO bd 3 days — (7-12 years,25-34kg)
- Artemether — Injection — 3.2 mg/kg on admission IM 3.2 mg/kg IM on admission, then 1.6 mg/kg IM daily Until patient can swallow — (Severe malaria)
- Quinine — Injection — Loading dose: 20 mg/kg, Maintenance dose: 10 mg/kg IV — (Severe malaria)
- Artemisinin — suppositories — Loading dose: 40 mg/kg,  Maintenance: 20 mg/kg at 24, 48, and 72 intra-rectally Until patient can swallow — (Severe malaria)
- Artesunate — suppositories — 200 mg intra-rectally at 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60 hours — (Severe malaria)
